Its True

Kids really do say the darnest things. I'm the 2nd counselor in the Primary presidency at church. That means I work with and teach kids between the ages of 3 and 12. Today we had a lesson about the father's role in a family. The teacher explained that a father provides, presides, and protects. While explaining the word preside to the kids, a male teacher said that it kind of means that the father is to LEAD the family. Very innocently and completely seriously, a young boy, probably 8 years old, said, "I thought that was the mom's job."

I was talking and laughing about this after church with a friend of mine and she told me another story.
While teaching about repentence, a teacher explained that anytime we make a really big mistake we can go to the bishop to talk to him and get help. A little girl raised her hand and said, "oh, my dad made the biggest mistake. It was really really bad." Of course everyone is thinking she's about to spill the family secret, when she says, "he went to the movie at the WRONG time!"

I love working with these little kids. They are so pure and so precious. I was scared to death to be in the primary at first, but I love every second of it and these little spirits of God have taught me so much about the pure love of Christ. They love unconditionally, even if they don't know it. I look at Morgan sometimes and I can see how much she loves me, even though I'm probably not as good of a mom as I could be. It amazes me that with all my imperfections she can have such a pure and perfect love for me. We can learn so much by watching children and applying their Christlike attributes to our own lives. I feel very blessed to be able to work with children every Sunday. They rejuvinate me and renew my spirit (while exhausting me all at the same time..lol).

I feel the same exact way! I am also the 2nd counselor in Primary and I was a little scared because I've never worked with Primary children but I love it so much and I have developed such a love for the children as if they were my own and such a reverence for what we do for them. I'm thankful to be in Primary.

That is really cute! I love working with kids everyday (for the most part) :) I never know what they are going to say next. And I have also learned that they are SUPER honest. Count on them to let you know if your butt is fat.

Ha, another story I didn't post is that the teacher was using her husband's shoes for the object lesson and one of the kids said, "wow, brother Francom has huge feet!" And another kid yells out, "ya and a huge head!"

Hahaha - I've worked with little ones quite a bit, and it's too funny. Being in the nursery you could always count on finding out who was pregnant, kids have no censor when it comes to speaking about anything! It's good to write them down, otherwise you can't remember later on. You'll find that with Morgan when she starts to talk, make sure to write down what you want to remember, or even better...get it on video :) I wish we saw helicopters every day here, but it's only once in a while now - Logan loved that at Rucker and Harlee doesn't know what she is missing. Morgan is too cute! I think all kids love to get into dishes, Harlee likes my pans right now :)

Just wait until it is Morgan spilling the beans in primary... I always worry what Jer is telling people. That kid has got one wild imagination. He tell people that dinosaurs bite him when he is sleeping and red cars hit his truck. He once asked his doctor why Batman had boobs. Luckily, the doc didn’t understand him and I was able to cover with “he wants to know why Batman in so muscular.” His poor sunbeam teachers probably don’t know what to think. Kids…they will never hold back with the truth. They say it how they see it.
Those are some awesome stories, if you ever want a good laugh due to my kids; I have a bunch of “kidisms” on the side of my blog… I read them ever once-in-while and some of them almost make me pee my pants.
